How much does a web site cost?

This is the first question we're often asked, although there are many things to think about (see our article Website ABCs). There is no simple answer, because it depends on what you want to do with the web site.

Here are the fixed costs that Prairie Skies Technical Services charges as of May 1, 2008:

Hosting: $9.95/month or $100/year (includes one domain name registration/renewal) - we manage our own secured web server that is located in a secure data center with 24-hour monitoring for any potential problems
Additional domain names: $15 each/year
SSL Certificates (for secure transactions -- puts the little gold lock in the lower right corner of your browser): $125/year or $250 for 3 years (we also offer a shared SSL that is free, and is fine for most organizations - contact us for more information)

Here are some cost estimates for web site design/development services:

Custom designed basic 3-5 page informational web site: $250-500
Ecommerce shopping site: $750-2,500
A web editor that allows you to edit the content of your pages, using a simple Word-like toolbar: $100 (one-time licensing/installation fee)

We can also develop custom, database-driven web sites with an administration area that allows you to update your web site anytime, starting at $1000.

Or, we can put together a package of web services based on your needs (contact us for examples of custom domain referral and email services - we have a very attractive package for Juice Plus and other franchise distributors).

Most sites that we've designed cost in the $500-1250 range (plus fixed costs like hosting and SSL certificates if needed). We can design a simple one-page site to give you a web presence for $250 (one-time cost, plus monthly or yearly hosting fees).
